Mountain View Farm began its services in 1972 as a greenhouse vegetable producer. Following the oil embargo which made propane unaffordable in this scenario, we moved to producing mass market bedding and blooming plants and herbs. These short term crops maximized our growing space and heating dollar. At this time we served the Mid-Atlantic grocery chain market from Delaware to North Carolina.

The installation of wood and sawdust fueled heat systems in the mid-1980s allowed us to return to long term year-round crops. We currently specialize in hiemalis "Rieger" Begonia, Boston Fern, Poinsettia, Cyclamen, Chrysanthemum, and Geranium production. Mountain View Farm Greenhouses has become known as the quality flowering plant producer for florists, garden centers, and food markets in Central Virginia and the Shenandoah, New River, and Greenbrier Valleys of Virginia and West Virginia.

Also, in 1983 we opened our first florist and garden shop in historic Lexington, Virginia. Our second location was opened the following year at The Homestead resort in Hot Springs, Virginia. We are also very proud and grateful of the fact that as our business has evolved we have been able to retain employees.
